It’s not the things that go bump in the night that worry you when you reach financial maturity. As we draw closer to this year’s Halloween celebration of all things frightening, we are considering Virgin Money's past report that 88% of Brits say money worries keep them awake during times of financial strain.(1)
Possibly haunted by past money choices and the effects it is having on monthly outgoings, or freaked out by upcoming changes to bills, we understand how thoughts creep in at night and can create restless sleep more than any ghoulish figures.
What keeps you awake?
With over 25 years working in the industry, we have experienced a multitude of client circumstances and heard of their financial fears. High rent costs or remortgaging when debt/credit card commitments have increased, incomes have reduced or lenders’ rates have gone up since last securing a fixed rate are common fears. Sometimes just the simple act of financial discussions and minor change is enough to spook people into convincing themselves that something terrible will happen. Living life without protection when you have just experienced a close friend or relative being diagnosed with a critical illness can leave people wide-eyed at night and feeling a desperate need to get help to understand how they can protect themselves and their family. Our money fears are legitimate responses to the everyday demands of adult life, but what we see is how the media rhetoric or the opinions of those close to a person can develop irrational responses to what could be addressed by having a conversation with a trained broker who knows the market and understands that for the majority of money worries there can be a solution or plan of action that can resolve the fears.
Stand up to the fears
With many lenders on our panel, we have products available to us that suit different circumstances. Debt consolidation, adverse credit lenders, capital raising, low deposits can become solutions to fear-inducing financial situations. When people talk to use about their worries, they often walk out lighter, no longer haunted by their concerns and with a clear sense of direction, leaving only the Halloween ghouls awake at night.
